March 13, 2017 -- Arc Publishing, The Washington Post’s fast-growing software-as-a-service business, has signed a technology partnership with tronc, Inc. to power digital publishing for its vast publishing portfolio, beginning with the Los Angeles Times.
“We are very pleased that tronc has chosen Arc Publishing and The Washington Post’s engineering team as a technology partner,” said Frederick J. Ryan, Jr., Publisher and CEO of The Washington Post. “After a year of incredible growth and momentum, this marks an important milestone for Arc which will now provide the digital foundation for tronc’s portfolio, starting with the Los Angeles Times, one of the most recognizable and well-respected news organizations in the country.”
“This partnership will provide us with the capabilities that our reporters need to deliver award-winning journalism across all platforms and new tools that allow our marketing partners to connect with our growing digital audience,” said tronc CEO Justin Dearborn. “We look forward to collaborating with The Washington Post on additional technology initiatives that benefit our readers and advertisers.”
In the initial phase of the partnership, Post engineers will work together with the tronc technology team to design and launch the Los Angeles Times on the Arc platform, further enhancing performance of tronc’s own SNAP (Simple News Assembly Platform) story editor. This will fast-track the process of enabling the newsroom of the Los Angeles Times and its readers to quickly take advantage of Arc’s benefits including superior site speed, advanced content-testing capabilities, and streamlined newsroom workflow.
“Arc Publishing is changing the way newsrooms think about their publishing platforms, ensuring speed, experimentation, and innovation are at the forefront of everything they do,” said Shailesh Prakash, Chief Information Officer at The Post. “With the integration of Arc at the Los Angeles Times and future tronc properties like the Chicago Tribune, Arc will power some of the largest newsrooms in the world and reach hundreds of millions of readers every month.”
